First World War Experience

Richard either enlisted in Liverpool or Hastings on the 14th October 1914 (his records are unclear) and started as Sapper 1576 in the Home Counties Field Company Royal Engineers. His service number later changed to 534238. He seems to have served with the 499th Home Counties Reserve Field Company until he went to France on 11th May 1918. At the end of his service he was with the 151st Field Company.

He remustered as a Driver on the 25th June 1916 and was promted to Lance Corporal on the 9th July 1915 and reverted back to Driver on the 23rd December 1916. He was at Prees Heath for discharge on the 4th February 1919.
