Access Centre

The Access Centre has many hardcopy documents on local history and family history, including records of births, deaths, and marriages, census returns, street directories and maps. There is information on shops, churches, schools, and entertainment, over the many decades.

You can read histories on Bexhill and Little Common, choose the King’s German Legion, smuggling or learn about Bexhill’s transport through the ages – horse and cart, the motor car, trams, trolley-buses, trains and the railway stations.

Bexhill at War

Learn about Bexhill during war time – the soldiers and their experiences, as told by them in the local newspapers, the problems at home, and the celebrations when the war was over. 

Smuggling in Bexhill

Find out about local smuggling gangs and earn about the many local legends regarding ”smugglers’ tunnels” linking some of the older houses in the area or even leading down to the beach.
