Washed ashore at Veness Gap on 24 Nov 1916

The service was carried out in the cemetery chapel at the same time as Albert Press for more information see W0043 PRESS Albert Reginald (Second Engineer)

Leonard’s son, Leonard Jnr also perished on the SS Vasco.

For reasons unknown Leonard’s grave – and that of his shipmate Albert PRESS – was left unmarked for 99 years.  Following research by Bexhill Museum the Commonwealth War Graves Commission erected a headstone in April 2015.
