First World War Experience

Alfred joined the Royal Navy on 10th July, 1903 and his Attestation Form showed that he was 5’6¾“ tall with dark brown hair, light blue eyes and a fresh complexion. He had a bracelet tattoo on his right wrist.

Alfred’s name is on the Bexhill Roll of Honour on 19th September 1914, and he is listed as serving aboard HMS “Lyne”. However, in the Bexhill Observer dated 31st October 1914 he is shown to be aboard HMS “Osprey”.

On Wednesday, 4th June, 1919, Alfred attended a Welcome Home Dinner at the Sidley Church Institute.
