Parents: Walter Lawrence, born 1866 in Coggerhall, Essex, and Susannah (Annie) Lawrence, born 1865 in Earls Colne, Essex.

Spouse: On 20th August 1928 Claude married a Margaret Gillham at St. Mark’s Church.

In 1901 the family lived at 21 Windsor Road but by 1911 had moved to 19 Windsor Road and Walter was a Gas Stoker.

First World War Experience

No service records have survived for Claude but we do know, from the Medal Rolls Index, that he was awarded the Victory Medal and the British War Medal.

He enlisted in early November 1914 into the new 6th Sussex Battery, R.F.A. (Territorials) and by 21st November they were leaving Bexhill for training in Slough and Windsor. Previous to his enlistment Claude had been working for some time with Mr. Philcox in his business in Sackville Road.
