Served in France. The Bexhill Observer on 24th October 1914 published a report made up of extracts from a letter Jennings sent home which describes a retreat from Mons. He also goes on to say how he will miss being in Bexhill for Christmas but hopes better times are coming.

In his letter he gives a detailed account of casualties during the action at Mons.

He was in No. 1 Convalesence Home, St. Nazaire, France at the time of writing his letter in October 1914.  He was being treated for a “rupture”.
