Parents:          Benjamin Hoadley (1856-1940) and Mary Ann Hoadley, nee Freelove, (1860-1931).

 Siblings:         Benjamin (1894-1979)and Christopher Vincent (Jack) (1902-1975).

Joseph married Mabel Edith Franks (1899-1981) in 1935 in the Battle area.

First World War Experience

Joseph enlisted on 20th November 1915 when he was 18 years and 7 months old.  He was nearly 5’ 5’, weighed 114 lbs, and had a chest measurement of 32” – expansion 2”.

Unfortunately, he was discharged from active service on 19th September 1916 as being no longer fit for War Service due to Epilepsy – non-attributable to the war.  He had a 30% degree of disability and was awarded an initial pension of 8/3d for 20 weeks.
