First World War Experience
William enlisted on 24th July 1915 and fought in France. He was on St. Mark’s church Roll of Honour for the Royal Sussex Pioneers 8th Battalion in 1915. Apparently, he was wounded in July 1916 but obviously recovered sufficiently to re-join the fighting because he was home on leave from the Front for a few days in January 1917.
William was awarded the Victory Medal, the British War Medal, and the 15 Star.
