First World War Experience

Other than a mention, in the Bexhill Chronicle dated 27th April 1914, of him being wounded we do not know what part Cornelius played in the war. We know he enlisted on 18th October 1915 and that he fought in Number 1 Theatre of War. The mention of his name in the local newspaper fixes his abode as Bexhill but no trace can be found of where he lived. In the 1911 census he was stationed with the RGA in Weymouth so we do not know whether he was demobbed and later re-enlisted or exactly why his Medal Rolls say that he enlisted in 1915.

Cornelius was awarded the Victory Medal, the British War Medal, and the 15 Star.
