First World War Experience
George enlisted on 6th December 1915 at the age of 30 years and 5 months. He was 5’ 7½” tall, with a 34½” chest – expansion 2” – and was a member of the Church of England.
He appears to have served on the Home Front between 3rd June 1916 and 17th April 1919 and was finally discharged in March 1920 classed as “Overage” with a gratuity of £9.15s.0d. At this time he had moved home and was living at 49 Salisbury Road, Hastings.
No definite Medal Rolls have been found but it would be safe to assume that he would have been awarded both the Victory Medal and the British War Medal.
