Family Information

Parents:          Mother – Ann Elizabeth Isted (1876-1956).

Siblings:         Daisy Isabel Isted (1899-1977).

In 1901 Alfred was an Isted living with his mother and grandmother but by 1911 he had changed his name to Burns and was living as a lodger at 5 Haddocks Hill Road, Bexhill on Sea, with his mother.

When Alfred died, on 3rd March 1978 he was living at 84 London Road, Bexhill on Sea, and left an estate of £25,333.

First World War Experience

Unfortunately, nothing remains of Alfred’s Service Records apart from his Medal Rolls listing which shows he was awarded the Victory Medal and the British War Medal.  However, we do know, from both the local newspapers and his Medal Rolls listing, that he was also awarded the Military Medal.  Sadly, the researcher cannot find any mention of how he came to win this medal but it was awarded somewhere between the end of 1917 and the beginning of 1918.
