The #Roman Emperor Trajan inaugurated the Aqua Traiana on 24th June 109AD. The new Aqueduct channelled water into Rome from Lake Bracciano, 25 miles north west of the city - it had fallen out of use by the 17th century.
Traditionally, St John’s Day (the Longest Day) was marked with lots of noise! Bachîns such as these were rung, and cow horns and conch shells were blown. It was believed that noise cleansed the field and orchards of evil spirits to guarantee a good harvest.
The world's oldest colour film: invented by Edward Turner and filmed 119 years ago. This is a collection of his 1901-2 footage filmed in Brighton & Hove, Houslow and Knightsbridge, London. Edward died in 1903 at the age of only 29. His historic films were re-discovered in 2012 ♥️
