Can modern archaeology help solve one of the enduring mysteries of the Battle of Hastings?

Join David Dennis, presenter of Bexhill Museum’s popular History Hour, for a special lecture exploring the events of 1066 and new archaeological proposals for locating the Norman dead, presented here for the first time.

The lecture will examine the Norman invasion, the battle and its aftermath, drawing on historical sources, previous investigations and modern battlefield archaeology. It will explore how DNA analysis, geophysics, geology and evidence from human and horse remains, weapons and armour might help locate the burial sites.

The presentation includes: William’s invasion plans and the Councils of Lillebonne; building the Norman invasion fleet; the landing in England and the attack on Old Romney; the Battle of Hastings (14 October 1066); William’s movements after the battle (15–20 October); Battle Abbey and the Bayeux Tapestry.
