The America Ground

6 September @ 1:30 pm - 3:30 pm

The America Ground by Paul Sandby Munn (1811)

Local historian Ken Brooks presents an illustrated lecture.

In medieval times a natural harbour existed at Hastings town centre. Later, by the early 19th century, the nearby area had become a marshy ground with hundreds of squatters living in homes made from scrap materials: How the site became known as the ‘America Ground’ will be explained. Then as Hastings gained popularity as a holiday resort, this site was required for development.

Tickets are £10 (£8 for members) and must be pre-booked. The charge will include tea and coffee, and admission to the museum displays. Please note the museum closes at 4pm.

You may call into the museum and pay by cash or phone the museum reception on 01424 222058 to reserve your place; Payments cannot be taken over the phone, but  payment on the day is acceptable. Your place will be held until 15 minutes before the talk starts.

Space is limited in the Museum Education Room so please book early.
