Stepping Out: The wreck of the Amsterdam

20 August @ 5:30 pm - 8:30 pm

Inspecting the wreck of the Amsterdam.

This familiar walk at low tide will again explore the events leading up to the wreck of the Amsterdam, off Bulverhythe, on January 26 1749, and the loss of this 18th century Dutch East India Company cargo ship. Sensible footwear is strongly advised as the walk involved stretches of shingle and wet sand. Meet on Galley Hill by the Coastguard Station. Please do not park cars in Bridgeway, near the railway footbridge opposite the wreck site.

  • Meet: Top of Galley Hill by Coastguard Station
  • Duration: 3 hours
  • Parking: Take note of specific parking restrictions.
  • Distance: 3 miles
  • Leaders: Neil Bates & Alex Markwick

There is a charge of £5.00 for adults and £2.00 for accompanied children. Local public transport timetables should be consulted regarding availability on the day. The walk leaders are Museum volunteers and all proceeds go to Bexhill Museum.
