Living on the Edge

This is the story of man’s battle with natural forces – literally living on the edge. For over 100 years the sea has been eroding the cliffs at Fairlight, near Hastings. Eventually, by the 1980s, homes were collapsing on the crumbling edge of the cliff. Finally, after a long battle with the local authorities, a scheme to protect the cliff was agreed, but this involved transporting huge blocks of Larvikite (granite) from Norway. Tickets are £10 (£8 for museum members) and must be booked in advance in person at the museum in advance, or reserved by calling the museum on 01424 222058.
