Bexhill Film Club: The Cabinet of Dr Caligari

Bexhill Film Club takes a darker turn with its first horror screening: The Cabinet of Dr Caligari, the 1920 German silent classic often described as one of the first true horror films.

A landmark of German Expressionist cinema, the film is famous for its jagged painted sets, strange shadows and dreamlike atmosphere. Its story follows a travelling showman, Dr Caligari, who arrives in a small town with Cesare, a mysterious sleepwalker he claims can predict the future. When a series of murders begins, suspicion and madness close in.

The screening will again feature live musical accompaniment by Mike Hatchard, bringing fresh energy to this eerie silent masterpiece.

The film will be shown at Bexhill Museum on Wednesday 1 July. Doors open at 6.30pm and the film starts at 7pm. Running time: 70 minutes.

Tickets are £8 and can be reserved by phoning 01424 222058 or by calling in at the museum.
