
Beside The Seaside – From the Victorian Era to Today

Coastal towns became popular in the 18th century when doctors began to recommend the health benefits of the sea air and sea water. Popular local historian & speaker Ken Brooks takes a nostalgic look at the attractions of the seaside from Victorian times to the present day. These will include the pier, bathing machines, minstrels, pierrots, paddle steamers, fashions and local characters, such as Biddy the tubman.
Tickets are £10 (£8 for members) and must be pre-booked. The charge will include tea and coffee, and admission to the museum displays. Please note the museum closes at 4pm.
You can call into the museum and pay by cash or phone the museum reception on 01424 222058 to reserve your place; Payments cannot be taken over the phone, but payment on the day is acceptable. Your place will be held until 15 minutes before the talk starts.
Space is limited in the Museum Education Room so please book early.
