SUMMARY:The Saphead: Buster Keaton's breakthrough silent classic
DESCRIPTION:The film that launched Buster Keaton’s career is being shown at Bexhill Film Club. \nThe Saphead was made in 1920 and was Keaton’s first starring role in a full-length film. \nThe showing marks the club’s return after a two-month break while presenter Mike Hatchard was performing at the Edinburgh Festival. As always the club features silent films from the 1920s the way they were originally shown – with live piano accompaniment. \nIn The Saphead\, Keaton plays Bertie\, the son of the richest man in New York. He is disowned by his father because he shows no interest in work.\nHis attitude is only adopted to impress Agnes\, the girl of his dreams. \nBut Bertie’s sister Rose is married to a struggling lawyer who plots to claim the fortune for himself. Time for Bertie to save the day… \nThe film will be shown on Wednesday 7 October at 7pm in the Museum Education Room. Tickets are £8.
