Discover the beliefs\, superstitions and stories that shaped generations\, alongside the realities behind accusations of black magic and the persecution of alleged witches. \nHistorian David E. P. Dennis examines local traditions alongside the lives of figures including Aleister Crowley\, Dion Fortune and Doreen Valiente\, placing Sussex at the heart of Britain’s rich and often misunderstood occult heritage. Expect a fascinating journey through folklore\, history and legend. \nThe talk takes place at Bexhill Museum on Thursday 23 July\, from 2pm–3pm. Admission is £8. At the end you might even be able to pick up a dinosaur souvenir.\nAlong the way you’ll encounter a giant T.rex head and bones from Bexhill’s own iguanodon.\nThe trail is on until the end of the school holidays and is included in the normal museum admission price

SUMMARY:Positively Puzzling - Tease your brains
DESCRIPTION:Do you like to do puzzles? \nAnother of our Positively Puzzling afternoon events – word puzzles\, sudoku\, brain teasers\, word search\, logic puzzles – is coming up. A chance to come along for a social occasion and try your hand at different types of puzzle. \nIt is friendly and non-competitive. There are no prizes – you just tackle the puzzles you like from a variety of those provided. Do as many or as few as you wish over tea and coffee and at your own pace (and in between chatting to your fellow puzzlers). \nJust to be clear: these are not general knowledge quiz questions – they are puzzles. The aim is to hold a session every month in the museum’s Education Room.  No need to book – just turn up. Admission is £5 which will include tea\, coffee and biscuits – and your choice of puzzles.

SUMMARY:Unseen: The Alex Sanders Archive at Bexhill Museum
DESCRIPTION:The first in a three-part online series of talks hosted by Alexandrian Witchcraft\, exploring Bexhill Museum’s archives relating to Alex Sanders\, the self-styled “King of the Witches”. \nSanders moved to Bexhill-on-Sea in 1973 to join his Old Town ‘coven’ and remained here until the mid-1980s. Drawing on archive material and contemporary newspapers\, the series will explore why he came to Bexhill and the impact his presence had on the local community. It includes photographs and documents that have not previously been seen. \nPart One provides the background to the town Sanders encountered\, his reception in Bexhill\, and a ceremony performed at the coven’s temple in the Old Town. \nSpeakers include Bexhill Museum curator Julian Porter. \nThis talk will not be held at the Museum. Items include diecast models\, Mamod steam engines\, stamps\, coins\, ceramics\, cameras\, jewellery\, watches and Japanese lacquerware. Thursday 20 August at the Poppy Club\, Meads Avenue\, Bexhill-on-Sea East Sussex TN39 4SZ. Doors open 5.30 for viewing\,  James’s talk at 6.30\, and the auction follows a short break.Tickets and catalogues cost £6 and must be booked in advance from Bexhill Museum shop from 1 August.
