SUMMARY:How do you train a dog to use a washing machine?

The charity breeds\, trains\, and supports expert assistance dogs that can create loving\, life-changing partnerships with disabled people. \nMalcolm’s talk is called So Far\, So Good and deals with this and several aspects of his life. He was in the Army for 24 years during which time he was a medical assistant in the first Gulf War. He has also played cello on state occasions at Kensington and Buckingham Palaces. On one occasion he played the wrong national anthem. \nThe lecture is on Wednesday 21 October at St Augustine’s Church Hall at 2.30pm. Places do not need to be booked – just turn up at the venue. SUMMARY:The Saphead: Buster Keaton's breakthrough silent classic
DESCRIPTION:The film that launched Buster Keaton’s career is being shown at Bexhill Film Club. \nThe Saphead was made in 1920 and was Keaton’s first starring role in a full-length film. \nThe showing marks the club’s return after a two-month break while presenter Mike Hatchard was performing at the Edinburgh Festival. As always the club features silent films from the 1920s the way they were originally shown – with live piano accompaniment. \nIn The Saphead\, Keaton plays Bertie\, the son of the richest man in New York. He is disowned by his father because he shows no interest in work.\nHis attitude is only adopted to impress Agnes\, the girl of his dreams. \nBut Bertie’s sister Rose is married to a struggling lawyer who plots to claim the fortune for himself. Time for Bertie to save the day… \nThe film will be shown on Wednesday 7 October at 7pm in the Museum Education Room. Tickets are £8. You can reserve your seats by phoning our front desk on 01424 222058\, or by calling into the museum in person.

SUMMARY:Bexhill in 1926 - A week in the life of our town 100 years ago
DESCRIPTION:The museum talks season gets underway in October with two lectures.\nThe first one is Bexhill 1926\, presented by museum volunteer David Hatherell\,.\nHe looks at what was happening in the town exactly one hundred years ago\, the news culled from the pages of the Bexhill Observer. He covers entertainment\, people\, sport\, shopping\, accidents and other events of that week. The talk is a natural complement to our final walk of the summer season\, which covered the same subject earlier this month.\nThose who enjoyed the walk will also enjoy the talk\, on Wednesday 7 October at St Augustine’s Church Hall\, starting at 2.30pm. Places do not need to be booked – just turn up at the venue.\nThere is a charge of £5 (£4 for museum members). Tea and coffee will available. We will be unable to take payment by card at this event. Our apologies.

SUMMARY:Rameses II & the Reconstruction of Abu Simbel
DESCRIPTION:The last of this year’s Ken Brooks lectures sees him return to Ancient Egypt themes.\nHe will begin by looking at the life of the Pharaoh Rameses II. During his long reign he did everything on a grand scale\, whether it was building impressive temples and statues or producing many children.\nThe second part of the presentation will feature the reconstruction of his temple at Abu Simbel. This was moved from its original site in 1968 to make way for the creation of Lake Nasser.\nSome of the ancient Egyptian artefacts in the museum will also be discussed.\nAdmission to the museum is included in the talk cost of £10 (£8 for museum members). Refreshments are included. Phone (01424 222058)\, call in or email info@bexhillmuseum.org.uk to reserve your place.
