William the Conqueror: A Justified Invader?

15 November @ 2:30 pm - 4:30 pm

£5.00
The Battle of Hastings

Did William the Conqueror have just cause to invade England in 1066? Had he been promised the throne by Anglo-Saxon King Edward the Confessor? Had Harold given his word to William not to contest his claim?

Or was Harold’s promise given under duress? Was his selection as king legitimately authorised by the Anglo-Saxon Witenagemot (a council of nobles)? Or was history rewritten by the victor of the Battle of Hastings? Our speaker James Dickinson weighs the case for both arguments.

Admission £5.00 with a discount for Bexhill Museum members.
